Effluent treatment dairy

Waterleau has provided process wastewater treatment for the world’s largest dairy food processor at their Campbell, NY cheese processing facility. The installation of pulsed up flow sand media anaerobic reactors was completed under a design build contract. Waterleau’s treatment solution eliminated previous discharge compliance issues, odor complaints, and trucking of waste byproducts. The Phase I system provided pretreatment for process wastewater that significantly reduced the loading to existing on-site aeration lagoons.

Under Phase II of this project, Ecovation constructed a five-fold expansion of the treatment facility to treat high-strength whey, which was previously land applied, and generate significant quantities of energy. The expanded anaerobic system converts all of the production plant’s soluble waste byproducts into biofuel and treated water. The renewable biofuel is delivered to the production plant boilers to offset 30-40% of the natural gas consumption. A Krofta Supracell DAF clarifies the anaerobic effluent prior to activated sludge lagoons.

For similar applications, Waterleau now offers an updated reactor configuration from the BIOTIM® family of anaerobic systems.
