Effluent treatment winery

Under a design build contract, Waterleau installed an anaerobic system to treat wastewaters from a California winery. The winery was under pressure from the regulatory agency to address its wastewater issues. The existing aeration pond was inadequate and the facility’s production was constrained by lack of efficient wastewater treatment. Waterleau designed and built a two module pulsed up flow sand media anaerobic reactor pretreatment system – designed to handle seasonal variations between the crush and normal seasons. In addition, Waterleau installed a Krofta DAF following anaerobic reactor. This was Phase I of a three phase project – anaerobic treatment, aerobic pond treatment, wetlands – that will ultimately allow direct discharge to a nearby river.

Biogas generated from anaerobic treatment powers two 65 kw cogeneration engines used as supplemental energy for the facility.
