Wastewater can be a source of renewable energy. Our anaerobic wastewater treatment technology is designed to convert the organic pollution into methane (CH4) gas, the main component of biogas.

Biogas production

The BIOTIM® anaerobic and LUCAS® anaerobic wastewater treatment technologies are Waterleau’s flag-ship solutions for the production of biogas from bio-effluent. In combination with aerobic treatment, up to 99% of the effluent’s organic load can be removed, allowing the final effluent stream to be discharged safely or to be further treated for reuse.

The biogas is converted into energy in the form of electricity, heat or a combination of both (cogeneration). Anaerobic digestion of wastewater offers other cost-saving advantages since sludge growth is significantly less compared to aerobic treatment and costly aeration of the wastewater is avoided.
