Commissioning Engineer
To support our growing Engineering team, we are looking for a motivated Commissioning & Start-Up Engineer to join our office in Porto, Portugal.
Responsibilities
Commissioning & Start-Up
- Execute pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including loop checks, functional testing, and system start-up.
- Validate the performance of process, mechanical, electrical, and automation systems during commissioning.
- Ensure installations operate according to design specifications and project requirements.
- Support the successful transition from construction to operational status.
Technical Validation & Optimization
- Verify that process design, automation logic, and site conditions are aligned.
- Identify, investigate, and resolve technical discrepancies during commissioning.
- Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical, electrical, process, and automation-related systems.
- Contribute to achieving stable, efficient, and reliable plant operation.
Collaboration & Coordination
- Work closely with process engineers, automation engineers, project engineers, and other multidisciplinary team members throughout the commissioning phase.
- Participate in technical discussions and provide commissioning-related feedback to project teams.
- Support cross-functional collaboration to ensure project success.
Customer Support & Handover
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers during start-up activities.
- Provide guidance and technical support throughout the commissioning process.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and on-site stakeholders.
- Support the successful handover of installations to operations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare commissioning reports and technical documentation.
- Record findings, actions, deviations, and optimization activities during commissioning.
- Communicate project progress, risks, and technical challenges to relevant stakeholders.
Competencies/skills
Technical Competencies
- Good understanding of industrial process equipment, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems and processes.
- Familiarity with PLC and SCADA systems is considered an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and functional descriptions.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.

- Hands-on approach to problem solving in industrial environments.
- Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions on-site.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing site conditions and project requirements.

Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
- Process Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Industrial Automation
- Or another relevant technical discipline
Experience
- 0–5 years of experience in commissioning, start-up, process engineering, or industrial project environments.
Technical Skills
- Understanding of process equipment, instrumentation, and industrial automation systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical systems.
- Ability to interpret engineering documentation, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and functional descriptions.
Languages
- Fluent in English.
- Additional languages are considered an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel internationally.
- Ability to work on customer sites for extended periods when required.
