Waterleau Afrique de l'Ouest takes off in Senegal
In 2021, Waterleau created Waterleau Afrique de l'Ouest with offices in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The Abidjan office reaches out to industrial and municipal projects in the French speaking countries and sharing the same currency, the CFA francs (Ivory Coast, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Cameroon and Mauritania)
In May 2023, Waterleau participated to a Belgian Economical Mission to Senegal patronized by our Royal Highness, Princess Astrid. During the mission, Waterleau signed a Letter of Intent with La Laiterie du Berger for the design and construction of wastewater treatment infrastructure. In December 2023, the final contracts have been formalized. Waterleau is to build the wastewater treatment plants for the dairy processing entities in Richard Toll and Sandiara. The technology train consists of a combination of Waterleau proprietary KROFTA DAF and LUCAS SBR wastewater treatment technology.
The installations will enable the producer of the popular Dolima dairy
products to comply with the Senegalese environmental code and discharge standards.
Transforming Senegal's Dairy Industry.
When Bagoré Bathily, a seasoned veterinarian, ventured into the heart of Senegal's Richard Troll region, he was profoundly moved by a striking reality: despite constituting 30% of the population, local cattle breeders struggled to attain a steady income, even as the Senegalese dairy market heavily relied on imports, accounting for over 90% of its needs.
This revelation ignited a powerful vision within Bagoré Bathily—a vision of reshaping the entire value chain and nurturing a flourishing local dairy industry that would not only provide stability to the livelihoods of the region's cattle breeders but also reduce the nation's dependence on foreign dairy products. Driven by the potential for immense social impact, he forged ahead and founded La Laiterie du Berger, meticulously establishing a robust logistics network. His team began the daily task of collecting milk from 800 dedicated cattle breeders, transforming it into high-quality dairy products proudly branded as DOLIMA, a symbol of "Good for me, Good for my country."
Today la Laiterie du Berger, is Senegal's single producer of dairy producers made from milk collected exclusively from Senegalese farmers.
Discover how Bagoré Bathily, the CEO of La Laiterie du Berger, is putting high value in the sustainable and social responsible development of his business in Senegal. We our proud to be able to accompany this inspiring entrepreneur in realizing his dream for the people of Senegal.
