A Senior Data Engineer to join our compact digital team at Waterleau. As the technical lead, you will be responsible for overseeing the architecture and implementation of data platform and data management solutions that support our water technology projects. You will also serve as a reference within our team, providing guidance and expertise to our data scientist, data engineers and other data savvy end-users.
Responsabilities
- Own the end-to-end development of our data infrastructure from design and architecture to implementation and maintenance. Ensure reliable data pipelines and easy accessibility for data consumers.
- Collaborate with business owners to understand the data needs and translate them into practical and durable solutions. You're able to turn technical requirements into durable solutions that are maintainable and cost effective
- Provide training & feedback to your colleagues. Participate in code reviews and improve pipeline quality and performance. You are the reference when it comes to all things data engineering: from data quality and query
optimization to platform architecture. - Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering (storage, compute, data quality, lineage & observability...). You are responsible to bring technical expertise and knowledge to the digital team,
guiding us towards durable choices. - Mentor other data practitioners and help them grow their skills. Together with our data scientist you are responsible for the continuous improvement of the digital team and other data practitioners. You are responsible to
provide or select relevant trainings and to set our internal standards and best practices.
Requirements
- Setting up data infrastructure and pipelines feels like second nature, and SQL holds no secrets to you. You have experience in data platforms like Databricks, Confluent or Snowflake, but you fully grasp the underlying technolo
and can work independently from these PaaS offerings. You have experience with one or more pipeline orchestrati tools like Airflow, Dagster or Prefect and you can select the best tool for a given situation. - Ability to work independently on complex projects. You deconstruct a complex goal in to manageable parts and help your colleagues when they are blocked. You're able to track and report progress in an effective and pragmatic way.
- Knowledge of data management and modeling techniques (Kimball rings a bell) and experience with Python libraries such as Pandas, Polars, Plotly and Altair. You have a proven track record in all things data transformation and visualization. You have experience with setting up BI environments. Practical experience with Superset is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. You can dive deep into technical issues while maintaining a clear vision of the bigger picture. You are able to find pragmatic solutions without increasing technical debt and the lo term consequences of your choices. Solid experience with cloud-based platforms and container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes. Setting up
- CI/CD pipelines, linters, automated tests, vulnerability screening and using Infrastructure as Code are your second nature. You have experience balancing managed cloud services with self-hosting solutions, selecting the best approach for each use case.
- Ability to work in a diverse environment. You are able to work with both in-office and remote colleagues, understanding the intricacies of their work. You are proficient in English and can communicate with a variety of non-native English speakers. An extended knowledge of other languages are always considered as a plus

- Experience in the water or process industry is a plus.
