Effluent treatment dried fruit

Waterleau provided an anaerobic system to treat high-strength spent sugar wastes, as an integral part of a comprehensive wastewater treatment and renewable energy system for a leading fruit processor. The goal of the project was to eliminate liquid discharge from the processing facility. A BIOTIM® upflow anaerobic contact (UAC) system converts 90% of soluble COD in the wastewater to biogas that will be used as a fuel to generate power via an internal combustion engine. Suspended solids from the UAC effluent are removed in sludge form in a Krofta dissolved air flotation (DAF) unit. The resulting effluent stream will go through additional treatment steps prior to reuse at the facility for irrigation purposes. The treatment plant is designed to absorb the next 5 years of production increases at the facility, and was the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest
